My story . . . VENT

Ladies, I am so bummed. About three years ago I had this vague feeling that something was wrong. I kept putting my hand to my upper left abdomen although the discomfort was pretty vague and mild. My ordered an ultra-sound which showed a slightly enlarged liver with a cyst (common) on it and I went back a couple of months later for a retest and they accidentally caught a corner of my ovary with a cyst on it. Follow-up pelvic US showed both ovaries covered with cysts, suggestive of cancer and this led to my TAH/BSO with organ washings, etc.

As most of you know, I then developed a hernia. I waited to have it repaired until I lost a bunch of weight so I wouldn't have a recurrence. That surgery was over 7 weeks ago and I'm doing OK. The pain and weird discomfort in my left side intensified over the time I was waiting to have surgery and I thought (hoped) that it was connected to the hernia pushing on it. I figured I'd know for sure if it was related after the hernia repair.

WELL, this whatever-it-is has gotten worse, not better. I am SO BUMMED. I've been waiting to recover from surgery, hoping and hoping that would get better too. You can imagine that over the past couple of years I have had a myriad of bloodwork, x-rays, etc., that showed no problem. This pain is interfering with my life. I have to get proactive and do whatever I need to do to see if it can be identified and dealt with. I am 60 years old and really didn't want to spend even more time trying to get better. I mean I am already disabled with chronic illness. Isn't that enough?

I can't walk without doubling over in pain after a fairly short while. I'm so afraid that nothing will be found and I'll just have to deal with this for the rest of my life. It has taken a back seat due to the other problems and it was only today that I realized that it was what started all this in the first place. It's hard not to slip into feeling really sorry for myself. I have been sick for so long (24 years), but I've been feeling so much better since I went through menopause and was really looking forward to getting more enjoyment out of life. I'm tired of being a good sport!! I just want to feel better!

Now I'll start again. Trying to explain this weird sensation that turns into pain. Going through testing, provided I'm believed. I'll talk to my surgeon when I see him in May. I'll ask for a referral to the pain clinic if need be. I'll really try to get this manageable. But I so much don't want to have to do it!!!!

I know there are many here who can relate. I'm just sick of being sick. :confuse:

Dear Joselle,
You have been there for so many of us that it just does not seem right that your journey through this mess keeps going on. I feel for you and your pain.

Several of the other gals suggested a pain management expert and I think that may be good advice. I have an older neighbor (male) who has experienced something similar for years. Doctors think he's nuts, but the pain disables him so. He's tried accupuncture, chiropractic and nothing has relieved him. He went to the pain management doctor and is finally getting some relief.

Good luck in dealing with the doctors, once again and keep us posted as to what occurs. You are too valuable a sister to suffer through this alone.

Thanks a lot, sisters. I have 'pain management clinic' in the back of my mind but of course hope for some other resolution. I know the hospital I had my last surgery at has a pain management clinic because onoe of the doctors from that clinic was responsibile for my post-op pain control. I exceeded the limit that nurses are allowed to set and I remember the pain doctor saying it was probably because of the Fibromyalgia.

Anyway, I'm off to see the doctor now. Thanks again for your support.

I can definately relate to you even though what I am dealing with is different than what you are dealing with. I posted today and made the same comment that you did about what if they don't find anything wrong and then I just have to deal with the pain forever. That's exactly how I feel. I too, am tired of being a "good sport". Hang in there and don't give up. It can be so hard! 's to you!

Oh yes I can certainly relate to how you're feeling. While I haven't been in this shape for 24 years it sure does feel like it. The last few weeks I've been in my pity me mode and than I get sooo mad at myself for feeling like that, like I should be able to just buck up and get on with life. But sometimes that just isn't possible anymore.

I sure hope the doctor is able to help you. I'm sending lots of s and ers.
