private room?

Went to the hospital's orientation last night (it was excellent). They have several private rooms which are available for an additional (out of pocket) charge of $75/night. DH says it's not worth it, but it seems good to me (no sharing TV, phone, toilet, shower, no intruders - unless they're for me). I'm afraid though since I did hear that many people end up staying longer than their MDs anticipated due to complications. Any thoughts? Thanks.

private room?

I would pay the money. I wanted a private room so bad. The hospital said I could have one for no extra charge if I recovered in the maternity ward. I was apprehensive about the emotional aspect, but I took it. I'm so glad I did. I had severe post-op nausea and vomitting. I ended up kicking out every person who visited me because they were loud and my headache couldn't handle the noise. I'm not trying to scare you, I've had an easy recovery other than the nausea and headaches for the first 4 days. I also couldn't sleep well and roamed around the room most nights until 3 or 4 in the morning. I couldn't imagine having another person in the room. Their company would have made me crazy and my roaming probably would have sent them through the roof. I think recovery should be a private time so you aren't worried about other people and can focus on yourself. You are only there a few days and I think you should be as comfortable as possible. (just my 2 cents).

private room?

I did pay the difference ($100/day here) and I would do it again. In fact, I DID do it again for my second surgery. The first night after my hysterectomy I was in a sem-private room and listening to my roomie moan and groan was no fun. This is not like having a D&C or something. I appreciated the peace and quiet and nobody gave me a hard time when my family wanted to stay 24/7. I didn't get a TV, either. Waste of money - put it toward the private room!

Seriously, I personally found it worth the extra money and I had to borrow the money to pay the bill.
