Not a private room....

I'm sure I'm freaking out about nothing, but today I was told by the castle that the private rooms come on a first come/first serve basis.

PLEASE tell me that someone has had an okay experience with a roommate! I know there are no guarentees, and hubby said he'd talk with the nurses if there's any problem, but I really don't want to worry about this.

Not a private room....

Im sure it will be fine! My fingers are crossed that you will get a private room and if not, a roommate who is considerate and hopefully one who is dealing with a similar situation as yourself. Then you will have another princess to share stories with!

You'd be amazed at how frequently private rooms become available and I sure hope you get one.

I wouldnt worry about it. You have more important things to deal with now, like taking care of you

Not a private room....

The hospital I am having my surgery does not have private rooms.
The admitting office said to ask the head nurse to keep me alone if at all possible.

Not a private room....

My poor roommate was hallucinating at 9:30 pm. She swore she saw a man outside the window and running behind her bed. She was grabbing the phone to call the police. That was the only time I ever called the nurse. A very bad reaction to medicine. They called her DD in to help calm her down. It kept me awake, but I really didn't mind. It's not the most comfortable place to sleep anyway. Her little episode ended about 1:30 am. At least I was tired enough by then to really zonk out no matter how uncomfortable the bed was. I wouldn't stress about a private room. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, as they say. My motto has always been not to expect things to work out a certain way beforehand because it hardly ever works out the way you plan. You won't be dissappointed then and you could be pleasantly surprised.

In case you don't get a private room

Make sure you have ear plugs and an eye mask. Non-private rooms have the television placed so both room mates can watch. If your roomie is watching TV at midnight...ear plugs and eye mask will help shut that out...

Not a private room....

This is something you'll have no control over, so try not to stress too much about it. My hospital also had private rooms on first come first serve. My surgery was Fri afternoon, so naturally there were no private rooms left. My roommate on Fri (who had a hysterectomy a few days earlier) was up regularly all night to go to the bathroom, and had the TV on all night - although the sound was off. However, the nurses were in every 90 minutes or so checking me, so I wasn't getting any sleep anyhow.

Roomie and I had a pleasant conversation at 2 am, and then she was discharged in the morning. I had the room to myself until I was discharged the next morning.

So....things may turn out better than you expect!

Good Luck!

Not a private room....

Hi there;

I always assumed I'd have a roomate! Go figure. Now I'm trying to figure an angle where I can get a room alone...just kidding. As long as the person next to me isn't constantly throwing up I don't care.

Angels in disguise?

Remember, there are angels among never know who you will just could be that you'll meet an angel...or at least a new, good friend you'll share a common bond with.

Best wishes for peace and a calm spirit,

Not a private room....

Try to make the most of it -- Glitter said it "EAR-PLUGS"
bring two pair one for you & one for roomate, the eye mask is a great idea too. I am a Caregiver and it would be my luck that my roomate would be a Geriatric HEY how about Brad Pitt as a roomate OH YEA ,he could be my Angel any time (bad ding) hehehe.
Best of Luck Rita
