Anyone used Replens?

I just started using Replens as I have vaginal dryness. I figure its the same in the US as here so I thought I'd ask a question. On the leaflet it says that a white and gritty discharge is normal when first using - dead cells being shifted it says - but it doesn't say how long this lasts. I've got a lot of this 'gunk' and its not pretty. Has anyone else had this and how long did it take to clear up? At the moment the gunk is worse than the problem I'm trying to sort!! I'm cleared for sex but feel I am too dry, and this gunky stuff is offputting to say the least!

Once I've had my hormone levels checked my GP said she can give me some oestrogen until my ovary decides whether or not it will work again (ever hopeful - I wonder is the effect on vaginal dryness instant or does it take time to return to normal?

I don't find Replens an instant answer. I think it's kind of like putting cream on dry skin. It takes awhile for your skin to really become soft again. Try a lubricant for sex. Astroglide? There are others, don't know what names you might find where you are.

Anyone used Replens?

Hi Chris! I used Replens for a little while but I didn't have a problem with the gritty stuff, although I have heard other sisters here talk about it. I think I didn't have that because my dryness wasn't very severe when I was using it.

You're probably going to find that the hormonal (estrogen) remedies work a lot better and faster than the lubricant or moisturizing types. I hope your DR can help you out soon! If the problem is severe, one of the quickest acting solutions is Premarin vaginal cream... I used it for a while after a vaginal surgery to help healing and it worked like a charm. On the minus side it is a bit messy.

Some ladies have had good success starting off with one tube of the Premarin cream, and then after that is used up, switching to either estring or vagifem, which both release small amounts of estradiol vaginally and neither of which is as messy as the Premarin cream.

I hope this helps!

-Linda

Anyone used Replens?

Thanks Joselle/Linda - we get KY jelly here and the Replens as far as I can see. Neither seem to do the trick right now - I think maybe I'm too dry as you say.

I will ask the doctor about the cream that sounds good - I hope we get something similar here *grumbles* of course I have to live in the most backward land in the world!!

Anyone used Replens?

Hi Chris,

KY is not nearly as effective as other lubricants that are made specifically for sex. Are you sure there isn't something else? Astroglide is a little messy - it's liquid but very slippery. Just imagine what you can do with it! I know there are a number of other similar products out there. Perhaps they are 'behind the counter' or even on prescription.

I agree that if you can use estrogen cream (not necessarily Premarin) it could work better than Replens.

It may well be that there are other products lurking and I've not come across them yet never had to look before. I will have to investigate further!

Just a thought. If you can't find them in a store maybe you could order something over the internet. I think there is a site called AdamandEve.com or something like that and I know they sell stuff like that.
