I have a half of an ovary left after my hysterectomy and I'm not on any meds. I have no sex drive at all, very moody-irritable,gaining weight(13 lbs. since surgery in sept),having lots of emotional problems.I'm 25 years old-too young for this.If there is anyony out there with these problems please tell me how you deal with it (and if you are taking hormones) because i'm going nuts!! Thanks

going nuts

Hi Meeshi, I am new to all this but when I first found the hormone jungle(about a month ago)I to was going nuts. One year past my surgery(no ovaries) and I wasn't taking anything at all- not even a vitamin. I was fine and then all of a sudden slammed with everything except hot flashes. I was getting panic attacks/ anxiety/depression memory loss fuzzy thinking-no sex drive- i truely felt like I was going out of my mind. My doctor put me on ativan for the anxiety, but I knew that I just needed to balance my hormones.Alot of wonderful ladies responded to my questions and I have found out alot of it is trial and error. I started taking premarin because there is a wonderful site that says you actually need estrogen for brain function and my husband insisted on progesterone creme that he ordered. I started taking a multi vitamin and calcium. I am doing so much better. I am starting to taper off my anxiety med because i am starting to feel more balanced. Not all the way yet, but I am functioning through my days now. I also started walking and trying to eat healthy. I was affraid of hrt for many various reasons(endo being one of them) but was desperate to feel better. It has helped alot. I am still debating on trying something other than premarin like the black cohosh but haven't done enough research yet.you have to decide if you want to try hrt or go natural. There are alot of different things that help which ever way you go. Just do some reading and try what makes you feel comfortable.
I hope you are feeling better soon. This can be a terrible time but alot of it is positive thinking that you will feel better soon.

going nuts!

Boy do I know how you feel, Meeshi! I had my TAH/BSO at age 32 on 12/9/02 and I woke up from surgery in severe estrogen withdrawl. Menopause was kicking me in the butt long before I left the hospital. I could not take HRT due to a genetic blood disorer. I would have opted for HRT if it was an option. The hot flashes, insomnia, and depression have been alot to cope with. Effexor helped with the depression and hot flashes, but has not cured them (it has been more tolerable, though). To help with the insomnia, I had to start seeing a Sleep Specialist, which has offered some help as well.

Hang in there!!!!
