My pain saga continues...

Well I had to return to my doctor on Thursday morning because the duragesic wasn't working. I just wanted something to suppliment with until it took full effect. My doctor upped my dosage to 50mg instead. I asked him how long it should take to work and he said it should work immediately. So I trusted him and didn't ask for anything else. I went straight home put on two patches (25mg each) and took 4 ibuprofen. That was at noon on Thursday. By 3pm I was in terrible pain in my left lower abdomen which is usually where my pain is the worst. It was not getting better, only worse. I went ahead to the grocery store and kept debating whether or not to go to the ER. I had my 3 year old twins and my thirteen year old with me so I decided to go on home after picking up only a few items. When I got home I called my doctor's office for an hour and a half. I only got their usual recording that asks you to push one for appointments, two for the medical assistants etc. I tried every number and never got ahold of anyone. I didn't want to go to the ER and pay all that money so I decided to go to the immediate care center. Well that was a complete waste of time and money. I was now out $60 total in copays by this time. They did x rays, blood work and a urinalysis. All came back normal. So since I was on the duragesic patches they said they couldn't do anything more for me and sent me home with 800mg ibuprofen. Needless to say I cried all the way home. It is so frustrating to be in so much pain and get no help. When I got home I drank 2 wine coolers (I know, I know don't bother with the lecture. I was desperate for releif) and went to bed. That did help a little with the pain and I was able to sleep through the night. This morning I called my doctor and begged them to call me in something, but they refused and said it is his policy to not call in any narcotics. I tried to explain that I could not afford another $20 but they wouldn't waive the fee either. So I broke down and went back to the doctor.
This time I told him that by now I was definately feeling the duragesic and was feeling way too drugged to function in my normal life and that the pain was still lingering so I just wanted to go back to the lortab. He agreed and increased my dose to ten mg four times a day. He also is going to refer me to another gyn and said that if my pain got worse before he could get me in to see the other doctor that he was putting me in the hospital. I agreed and promised that I would call if I got worse. Now last night I would have let him admit me in order to get any relief at all. Today I feel better so I will watch it. I am happy to be back on the lortab so that I can control when and how much I take instead of putting on a patch and being stuck until it either starts working or makes me too doped up to function.
I am just so tired of all this pain. I was hurting last night just as bad as I used to before my hyst. I will be glad to eventually find out what is causing all this pain.

Well I am going to go pass out (just kidding) now. Thanks for letting me vent.

My pain saga continues...

Hi Pamela,

I'm so sorry to hear you're still having so much pain. But I'm glad you got in to see your doctor and that you are being taken seriously.

I can relate only too well to the chronic pain. Sometimes life isn't fair. Glad you're feeling some better, anyway.
