uterus size

Hello ladies. I am a new member to this website. It has been a very informative site. I enjoy reading everyone's postings and gets lots of information out of them. My question has to do with the size of a uterus. How is the size determined? What kinds of tests are performed to determine the size of your uterus?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

uterus size

Hi excursion, and welcome!

The size of my uterus was determined during an ultrasound.

I have also read many posts about the size of a uterus being compared to "X" many weeks pregnant, dimensions in cm, and the latest (my favorite) the size of a man's head!

I was told in centimeters, but for the life of me I can't remeber what it was. Just that it was enlarged.

Hope this helps!

uterus size

Excursion,

The normal sized uterus is 9 cm or approx 3 inches in size.
Tara is correct in that the doctors determine the size of an enlarged uterus to that of a pregnant uterus. They figured the size of mine base on exterior ultrasound- with no water in bladder. (bottom line - couldn't hold it )

Welcome to this site! You should find the chatroom ladies very informative also.

uterus size

These ladies are right. The size can be determined on ultrasound. My dr. estimated during a pelvic exam the size to be about six week "pregnancy size" The ultrasound revealed it to be 9-week size. I was told if the uterus reached 10 weeks or bigger a vaginal hysterectomy couldn't be done. I had my TVH about six weeks later by my gyn and another gyn associate from the same office with the option of an open abdominal hysterectomy I had to sign for in case the dr. couldn't get it out vaginally.
