panty girdle?

I've been lurking here for a month, and most of my questions have been asked and answered by other people. However, I haven't seen anything on this particular topic, so here goes.

I got laid off in March, and there is a slight possibility that I may have an important job interview at week 3 of my recovery. Would wearing some type of panty girdle help support the incision site for the few hours the interview would last?

Which type would be the best for this? Some look just like panties, while others have hooks and eyes. Some aren't like panties at all and just wrap around your belly.

If it matters, I am relatively "fluffy," at 5'10" and 230 pounds.

This web site has been a lifesaver for me. Thanks in advance for all your help.

panty girdle?

Hi Cindy!

Some gals have a binder they wear post op ... I didn't and my gyn never even mentioned it.

However, I did buy some suport-type underwear ... not really a panty girdle, but it sort of looked like that. I got them at Target. I was most comfortable with this type ... but everyone is a little different. Whatever you prefer, I think the extra support is a good idea. I'm assuming you're having an abdominal incision ... at 3 weeks post op, you may not be very comfortable sitting for long periods of time. So the extra support will help.

Best of luck!

panty girdle?

Gentle support may be OK, but if you're sore, which you probably will be at three weeks, you don't want anything really tight. I am 10 weeks post-op for my most recent surgery and still find at times that wearing support just makes things worse. What I've found to be the best kind of support for me is a body briefer. Just got two new ones yesterday!! But if I wear anything too tight I just get more sore.

tummy support

Good luck with your surgery and interview! I woke up from my surgery --TAH/BSO with a binder wrapped around my tummy. I started wearing a shaper brief, for support around 3 weeks post op. I ordered it from JC Penny online. I like the wide waist band one. I have also tried control top panty hose. That worked too. I don't wear the brief all the time, but it helps when I am moving around a lot.

please describe "binder"

When you say a "binder," what exactly is that? Is it one of those wrap-around-your-belly things with the hook fasteners?

I plan to go shopping tomorrow, to try on various styles. Thanks so much for all the good advice!

(My surgery is on May 12, so I'm keeping myself busy and distracted.)

binder

Hi Cindy,

The binder wrapped around low on my tummy and hips, and was secured with velcro. It was really just elastic and velcro. I wore it out! I used it night and day the first week, and then only some of the time the second week. Have fun shopping!
