How long should you have drainage after a THV? and how much drainage is okay? I am feeling great just wondering about that part of recovery.

drainage

From reading post from many sisters, I think the drainage/discharge can be very different for different people. Mine after TVH with repair of rectocele and cystocele was about 5 wks. The first few days looked like blood, then bloody/watery, then pinkish-brown, finally brownish. I decreased pad size accordingly finally ending with the tiniest panty liners I could find cut in half.

Just a couple of things I wanted to add....

If the drainage is bright red (new bleeding) or if you soak through a pad in an hour, you should be concerned and call your DR.

If the drainage is foul smelling, not just "funky" smelling, greenish or yellow it can indicate infection and should be looked into immediately. (Some have a pale yellowish discharge that is often o.k. Just call your DR to be sure.)

Any bleeding after being released from the DRs care should be reported.

had the same question

I am almost 2 weeks post op and still having to use pads ;o( - thought I was beyond it but one pad does me all day. I have heard and read that this can go on for 4-6 weeks. I also find that it increases when I overdo it or am just moving around a little more than usual.

My question is - where is it coming from if there is 'nothing' there anymore?

I'm in my 8th week and I have a slight yellowish discharge. It is less now than when I went in for my 6 week post op. The said mine was a bacterial infection from inside where the incision is. I was itchy at the time and he gave me an anti-bacterial cream to put on the outside down there. I don't itch now, so it is just part of the healing still going on. When I was 3 weeks I had a slight yeast infection and took Diflucan tablets. I feel fine otherwise. We just never know what we are going to get after surgery. I feel I've been pretty lucky with the side effects I've had. Most people don't have any trouble after surgery. We just hear from the ones who do.
