Does anyone know when the clock starts clicking for Same Day Surgery

I am still really upset with my insurance about this same day stuff and they are not helpful when I call. Does anyone know if the 23hrs starts when you check in or when your surgery ends? Im so worried they will send me home too early? The nurse at the clinic reassured me he wont, but if its anything like my hernia repair they were quick to get me out of there, I couldn't even walk out and dont even remember anything except when I got home I was in sooo much pain.

I know I just need to get over this but I dont have anyone to talk to that understands my concerns My hubby is gone the whole next day for a benefit that I was supposed to be throwing and I dont want him to miss it. Im sure ill be fine just needed to vent and see if anyone knows the answers?

Also what would the drs keep you admitted for? It just seems like the last time they just wanted me out and I felt unwelcomed.

Thanks

Re: Does anyone know when the clock starts clicking for Same Day Surgery

I think if you cannot pee, are in too much pain or having chest pain or breathing issues they would keep you. The fear of the unknown is the worst. Good luck during your surgery and during the recovery also.

Re: Does anyone know when the clock starts clicking for Same Day Surgery

I was told that the 23 hours began after I was released from the recovery room into my regular room.

Despite having a really difficult time with the morphine and being unable to walk to the bathroom until around 6 in the morning, once I started feeling better, it happened fast--and I was ready to go by 22 1/2 hours.

Re: Does anyone know when the clock starts clicking for Same Day Surgery

I had my TVH Tue. I went in at 6:25 and was out 1:30 the next day. I think it would have been ok to go home within 23 hours if I haddnt also had a bladder lift. I drank 8oz water every 30 min the day before just set a timer. When out of surgery I drank lots of cranberry jc. and water was sitting up that night. If everything goes well I think its very do-able. You will need your DH support.

Re: Does anyone know when the clock starts clicking for Same Day Surgery

Hi CADY0123!

I think that clock starts ticking when you are out of recovery room.

I went in for Tuesday surgery expecting to be booted out before 7 Wednesday morning but after surgery was told that I was being kept until Thursday because the surgery was more extensive than expected and was released Thursday late afternoon.

There should be certain goals that have to be met before you are released.

Good luck with your surgery and recovery!

Hugs,
Suzanne
