Re: Pre-op appt yesterday
And I hear YOU. Wanna know one of my biggest sources of anxiety? The fact that my husband will NOT do the things I know need to be done, the way I want them to be done! And my stupid stubborn post-op butt will probably try to get up and do them myself.... urgh.

Re: Pre-op appt yesterday
As to your question about retaining the cervix:
Many patients and doctors have definite opinions regarding the cervix and whether it should stay or go. There's no rule saying that it MUST be taken out during a hysterectomy, but there are some important factors to consider.
First, the cervix is not a separate organ. It's actually part of the uterus. If you retain your cervix, you may have what are called "mini-periods", which in some cases may not be all that "mini". In other words, you may continue to bleed. This isn't necessarily a problem, but if you're looking for a permanent end to your bleeding, it may be an issue for you. The cervix can be cauterized to lessen the chance of this bleeding.
If your hysterectomy is being done for fibroids, remember that fibroids can and do grow on the cervix. The only 100% sure way to cure fibroids is to remove the uterus AND cervix.
If your uterus is prolapsed, it may not be possible to save the cervix, either.
On the other hand, there may be good reasons for retaining it. Some women treat treat the cervix as they do the ovaries -- they want it to remain if it looks healthy. If you simply don't want any more taken out than absolutely necessary, then keeping your cervix would be important to you.
As for me, I had my cervix removed. I couldn't tell that I had one before, and I can't tell it is gone now. (I also had fibroids, so I wanted no part of them growing back.)
In the end, this is a very personal decision. If you feel strongly about keeping your cervix, ask your surgeon to clarify the reasons for removing it. Be your own advocate.

Re: Pre-op appt yesterday
I had my pre-op appt yesterday; my surgery date is 11/29. My last cycle was two weeks ago. So glad that's over! Surgeon explained the procedure to me; and I'm just ready to get it over with! God willing, I'll feel a lot better in a couple of months. Godspeed to all my other sisters awaiting their surgeries!

Re: Pre-op appt yesterday
I have Pre op today. They did the biopsy two weeks ago..they gave me 800mg ibeprophen and it was not a big deal. I went back to work. Uncomfortable but my period is worse than it was and I was scared when I went for it because I read about it being bad. A lady was having an iud put in while I was there and she was screaming OH MY GOD....LOL glad I wasn't getting one of those!!!

Re: Pre-op appt yesterday
Hi! Well it does not sounds so bad then! I also had an IUD before and remember the feeling when it's been put in. What she does not know (lady next door) that it hurts even more when it's been taken out.

Re: Pre-op appt yesterday
I had an endometrial biopsy. My Dr. and I chit chatted through it. It was not nearly as bad as my sister and others had said it would be. a little crampy while she was taking samples but not bad at all. It wasn't something I would want to do often though. lol

Re: Pre-op appt yesterday
Is a endometrial biopsy more painful than a D&C?
