Heart Palpatations

I am 5 weeks today from TAH plus they took left ovary after finding endo wrapped around it. I felt fine this morning but around noon started having very mild heart twinges and feeling hot. My remaining ovary has not quite kicked in yet so I have been having hot flashes since surgery. I am not on any sort of HRT, prescription or natural. Other than that, I feel great - no pain, etc. Has anyone else experienced this? I had a full heart work-up last summer when I was 42 and everything was fine. I took a xanax to calm the anxiety I was feeling everytime I felt one of those twinges. Anyone else have this happen?
Thanks,
Barb

Heart Palpatations

Hi Barb! Yes, I have had heart palpitations at times since my hyst. They are often due to low estrogen levels, which would make sense if your remaining ovary is not working yet. You may have had some stored estrogen in your body that took a while to get used up, which is why the palpitations started only recently.

Have you talked with your DR about your remaining ovary and the symptoms you are having? You may want to consider some form of estrogen as temporary HRT so that you don't start developing problems like vaginal dryness and atrophy.

Heart Palpatations

Linda, thank you for your response. I am having a 6 week check up and will definitely discuss this with him and have him check my estrogen levels. I am not looking forward to dealing with trying to find the right combination of HRT if it comes to that!

Heart Palpatations

Hi Barb,
I am 6 weeks post and having some palpatations too. I am on bio-identical cream and it is taking care of most of the symptoms that I am having (for the most part) For me..I had to do supplements before surgery. Now with NOTHING in there ..I for sure have to. It takes a while to get straightened out.. from what I understand..but I think my Dr. may have hit it pretty good the first time. (2%Estradoil/1% Testos cream) Before hyster I was on Prometrium for 2wks as well. Good luck and keep us posted!

Soy

Hi Barb!

It sounds like you need a little something until your ovary kicks in. I have nothing (everything is gone) so I am on Estrace, it's worked great, no problems. I was feeling emotional and moody so we upped the dose a little and now I'm my old self. If you don't want to try and HRT or ERT temporarily, see if drinking soy milk (vanilla is my favorite) will help with the hot flashes. I think it helps.

I had severe muscle spasms - not the same as palpitations, this was the muscle near my heart and OH MAN, did I feel like I was having a heart attack. After all the tests and trying a few prescriptions for anxiety and muscle relaxers, GUESS WHAT WORKED FOR ME???? Two alleve three times / day. Before you do something like that, check with your doctor. I was leary about doing that but my doctor told me that many alleve was equivalent to a prescription dose of naproxen. Also, you should not consume alcohol, etc. if you are instructed to do that.

Take care of yourself! It takes a long time to heal and feel like yourself again so be patient.

Thank you for all your responses. You know it's funny, just in the last few days I have noticed a definite drop in the hot flashes. Maybe just a few a day and not as severe. Guess that remaining ovary decided to kick in after all. Hopefully I have a little bit longer before I have to check into some sort of HRT.
