Re: Mirena IUD or ablation?

I actually did both. I tried the Mirena first for about 8 months. I contniued to bleed non stop. A few months after I had it removed I had the ablation which I found extremely painful. That didnt work either so I had the hysterectomy. I dont regret taking the time and going in that order, because like others, I knew there was no other choice by the time we got to surgery. My only regret was that I would have preferred to be knocked out when I had the ablation. My pain may have been unusual though as I have other autoimmune stuff that can lower my resistance to pain.

Re: Mirena IUD or ablation?

Hi gidget 72 Gyno i think ablation can help with heavy bleeding but maybe not so with pain my pain was so severe that i would pass out. Im 5 weeks post op tomorrow and getting stronger every day it's strange one day you feel good the next not so good. I really struggled the first three weeks couldn't get out of bed or in and out of car without excruciating burning tearing pain think it was to do with tendons or nerves then 3 weeks post op woke up and had so much more upper strength to help me get out of bed and have been improving since. I've heard TAH is less risky at damaging other organs. All the best with what you decide it's a very personal decision

Thanks, I am recovering nicely now, had a few complications (infection and ruptured a vessel in cuff), am doing much better now! Even returned to work last week. Thankfully I did not have any fibroids or adeno discovered during my surgery, thank God for that!!. I agree with one of the other posters, only regret through all of this is not going under for the ablation. I didn't think it would be bad, but it was.... Best of luck to all of you, hugs!!
