Allie-No snow in Columbus. I always say theres this bubble over us that lets us have the cold, dreary, raint, sleety stuff but not much of the fluffy pretty stuff. Just as well I suppose. We usually get a huge snow storm around my sons birthday (valentines) so it will probably be here this week...hope not the day we fly out or back- Im always afraid of flying in the winter.

noreen- I havent drove yet. My doctor said no driving for 2 weeks but when I spoke to him last monday he said put everything on the schedule he gave me off an additional week due the the surgical complications he had with me. I was barely able to stand the ride in the car to dinner 2 days ago but I AM going to drive to the store later this afternoon to get my kitties some treats, and a few personal items. We have plans for tomorrow but hubby is driving so if I get tired Ill just sleep...lol

cafe- I have had the same bleeding off and on. I was told the first time it was most likely a stitch that disolved too quickly and as long as it didnt soak a pad I was ok. He also told me that us completely vaginal girls have a really rough time with healing because we have maybe hundreds of internal stitches but no outter ones to keep us moving gingerly. Im 2 weeks and 3 days out and my bleeding has ginally been back to brownish for 2 days, but this morning I noticed more than I have before, but my doc says at about the 2 1/2 to 3 week point our stitches start ALL dissolving. Its amazing he says if I would have had a TAH I most likely wouldnt have bled as much or had as much pain, but that my main reason (for me that is) is because of the size of the uterus, the adhesions to the other organs, the time in surgery (over 4 hours) and the adenocarcinoma. Had it been a regular uterus without adhesions he said I would have also done better....so you have to say to yourself...what happened in my surgery and what type of surgery did I have? cause those are factors...as is "everyone heals differently"

So how am I? very T I R E D. I have had 2 bms since surgery which I know is causing some of my belly bloat. I have very little appetite. Im still in quite a bit of pain on the hips and when anything is passing the colon, and peeing is still an adventure! but Im on the mend!

maume3,
Thanks for posting and letting me know you have dealt with this also. I talked with the nurse and she seems to think that it just does happen off and on and since I am not soaking a pad an hour, it will be ok. She is running it by a doc or PA and then will call me back sometime. I started to get irritated or I should say frustrated, cuz I haven't done much around the house and how many days can you just sit on the couch!!!!!! I have been out a few days ago, (just before this last snowstorm), but I am tired of this. I keep reminding myself I have internal stitches so that I take it easy, but ~~~~ I just want to get out once in awhile-- go out to eat, or like just go to the bookstore or the mall to be out where there are people!!!! AND out of this environment!!! Winter is going to drive me crazy this year!!!!
When are you heading to Florida? Shoot, even sitting outside at the pool, or at the beach and taking a leisurely walk in warm weather sounds fabulous!!!! Envy you!!!!
Thanks again for posting. It helped!!!!

Good Morning Cafe and all my other sisters. Cafe, I would definitely call my dr. on the bleeding. Could be stitches, but the worry is probably making you anxious and not able to relax. Call and hopefully put your mind at ease. I had two ct scans for my right side pain and I know that help ease my mind by ruling out possible problems and narrowing it down to bladder infection. I'll be praying for you and all my other sisters.

Hello to all!
I have not had a great time this past week. I had to be straight cathed due to my bladder not emptying. They sent the urine to be tested for infection. I have to go back to be straight cathed again today to see how much they get. If it is a lot I will have to learn how to straight cath.. Lovely. I don't want to do that.

Cafe- I would call your doctor. Mine did tell me I could get Period like bleeding anytime during the recovery time. I have not though. I have just had lots of pain on the left side and discomfort once I finally got over the packing being taken out.

I wish you well and will keep you in my prayers.

Cafe, I feel ya! Like I said I was so frustrated the other day I insisted on being taken out to eat. Although it was great to get out, I paid for it yesterday and today. I am on a plan now though to get ready for Florida and I hope it works, else Ill be strolling along universal studios alone on a scooter while they run off and play.
We are leaving the 17th at 6am (we got $37 round trip airfair on the new skybus) and will be returning on the 23rd at midnight. We are flying in to punta gorda (sp) airport, and then driving to Orlando (about 2 hrs) so its kind of a icky trip for me in getting there and returning, but we rented a minivan in case I want to lay down.

As for housework...Hubby always told me that he could work and care for our home much better than I did and would always yell about this or that (he works and then comes home job over, whereas I was working, doing all housework, shopping, homeschooling, doctor appts, home repair issues, etc) well on Oct 19th when they told me I had to stay in bed except to go potty, he had his chance to prove his words...Well, lets just say the kitchen counters and dishes are clean...everything else, HA! My youngest has ran the swiffer maybe once, and cleaned HIS bathroom a couple times. I actually cleaned our bathroom twice (let scrubbing bubbles do it all the rest of the time) before surgery. and got so mad a few days before surgery that I actually swept, mopped, dusted and cleaned the entire house....paid dearly for it but couldnt stand it no more...since surgery I just simply cant do anything so again, the only thing clean is the kitchen and dishes.....Thank god I can at least spray the bubbles and swish the toilets! But you know what??? It will all be there when I am able. It isnt going anywhere.
Now as for getting outta there...Your in beautiful Wisconsin!! Just looking out the window is fun...I know not if your stuck there all the time!
I drove from Shakopee Mn to somewhere in Wisconsin with one of my sellers when I was working for Ashland, and it was absolutly beautiful. Hubby is a courier and drives all over the country and he says the nicest people he has met along the way (meaning he has never had a rude person) is in Wisconsin. He says in every state he has had contact with at least several rude people, but never in Wisconsin...I told him Cheese makes people happy!!! lol (I love cheese by the way)
Anyway....
Lets see
Ive played games at pogo.com, wrote to people here, watched movies, collected machine embroidery designs, done crosswords, read magazines, and mostly slept...I think I have ran out of things to do. Im glad the writers are agreeing to go back to work, but it will be awhile I assume, before new TV is available.
If I run out before we go, I guess I could be digitizing some designs, organizing the designs I have, learning how to and re-doing my website, taking stock of the craft items I want to sell, ...hmmm or I could just relax...lol

Take the time you need to heal...If yor board, Im almost always here.,..write me!

I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope that you start going on your own completely to avoid the cath.

I just talked to my doctor...He's so sweet, calls fridays to be sure Im ok before the weekend... Anyway I was discussing my "bleeding" and such. He said that there are other reasons someone may have bleeding other than the stitches dissolving and/or popping.

He said
1) if you keep your cervix and they dont cauterize it and you have your ovaries, you will still have a period.
2)If the above is true but they cauterize it, they may have missed an area.
3)If you kept your ovaried but nothing else and you have bleeding or spotting on schedule, then they have missed some tissue. He said this is mostly a complication of a totally lapro proceedure as they take the uterus us in "peels" (like how a potato peeler does a potato) He said they can miss tissue or pieces of tissue can remain and this tissue still builds lining.
4) If none of the above are true BUT you have or had endo, if ANY endo is left, it can also shed lining.
5)With ovaries left (even 1) you will still have a cycle where ypou get most if not all the previous symptoms of yor period without the bleeding. (This is one of 3 reasons I may be going back in) this includes bloating, headache, acne, cravings, ovulation pain, bowel issues, and irritability.

Hi Everyone,
I had LAVH on Jan. 22, so it's been two weeks and three days. I was doing great... driving, going out to eat, light household chores (dishes, etc...) and my appetite was healthy. My doctor gave me permission to do "whatever you feel like" so I've been doing it, just trusting my body and taking naps when needed, etc... I've had no spotting (kept ovaries) whatsoever and just mild discomfort when urinating or with bowel movements.

Then came Wednesday... I had a build up of abdominal gas that was so painful. I was bloated and backed up and felt ready to pop. It sent me straight to bed and I even developed a fever of 100.6 and my joints and muscles ached like I had the flu. I went back on the Motrin, started fasting (food sounded awful) except for peppermint tea, and sent my husband out for some Gas X. I couldn't even roll from my back to my side without sharp piercing pain in my abdominal area. I was beginning to think I had an intestinal blockage or one of my intestines twisted or the surgeon had left something inside during the lapro... I couldn't believe it. I did not have that much gas pain right after surgery so why would it develop now, two weeks after?

The Gas X and fasting helped and the bloating diminished as the day went on yesterday... The fever was totally gone. I went to sleep last night thinking the worst was over and woke up in the middle of the night with very sharp pains in my upper shoulders and under my ribs. I could not take a deep breath because of stabbing pain. I'd had some of this after getting out of the hospital so I knew it was from gas... sigh. So it seems as if the gas has moved out of the abdominal area and fanned out across my body!

My question is... how could I still have gas from the lapro trapped inside after 2 weeks? And has anyone else experienced this so late in the recovery? Right now, if I take a deep breath, I can feel the pain in both shoulders, under my ribs and even down below near my pubic area. I'm really hoping that it will disperse and be gone. I never want to feel that level of bloating again.

I didnt have lapro so was really surprised at the amount of gas I had.
I had surgery the same day as you did and YES I am still having those pains. Mine is under my breasts on each side when I breath in too deeply, almost feels like Ive got pneumonia or a broken rib..but was assured it is just the gas from anesthesia!
Good luck to you..glad you had an easy recovery until now...hopefully it will get back to it soon.

Thanks for responding, maume3. It's comforting to know I'm not alone in this.

So do you think this is from the general anesthesia then? I hadn't thought of that. I wonder why it would reappear as a big problem after 2 weeks. Anyone else still suffering from gas pains? When do they go away for ever?
